Making vista xp compatible


















If we want to test it in windows 7, I mean that actually we want to know whether it works well in XP machine, but we just have the windows 7 now, we could test it with this way.

That's my understanding. Only executables built with this platform toolset are supported to run on Windows XP, but those same executables will also run on Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8.

So far in everthing I've read not one person seemed to have trouble finding these options and in all of the downgrade trouble I've read about so far none of the people where able to get as far as the product key part.

I went online and got the xp drivers for the devices listed in my device manager. Dell has them all available at their website. I did, however, use a new hard drive. I took out the original one and put it in a portable USB case. That way I can transfer files as needed - IF needed. It also keeps my original in tact along with the recover partition and software.

It was about 40 bucks for a faster and better WD drive at Dell. You need to turn off the Flash first than switch to ATA. It also helps if you download the Service pack 2 seperately for XP before you do it. Most programs and Virus protection will need SP2. I run NIS and it works great. The reason I switch was the ever present "Blue Screen of Death". I got sick of it.

I found out in all this that I pretty sure my original hard drive is bad. Now I have and gb Western Digital Drives in it. The other topic I wanted to give my 2 cents on was users complaining about how much it sucks up resources and to get the speed up you have to disable a bunch of eye-candy features. Shut-up and quite being so cheap.

While I agree that some of those toys are useless, I like to customize my GUI's to change the scenery. You'll have to come to grips that if you want to see all that flash, you'll need a GPU that has enough horsepower to keep up.

They aren't that expensive these days. As to the need to upgrade and "being cheap" most people don't need a power house of a computer. They don't game, they don't do video editing, they don't need most of the added crap that vista has, and thus they don't need Vista.

I am about to pull Vista off my wife's laptop and put XP on it because it offers better functionality for her. XP is jsut more efficient. In all reality I would have preferred windows 98 to XP but compatibility forced an upgrade. Oh wait, that is what Linux is for. You know there is a problem when an upgrade means going back to XP. Now that that is cleaerd up i would like to say stop flaming!
